A total fire ban is in place today for most of the upper South West region as crews battle a blaze in the Perth Hills.

The cities of Bunbury and Busselton, and the shires of Harvey, Capel, Collie, Dardanup, Boyup Brook, Donnybrook-Balingup and Bridgetown-Greenbushes are under the order, which lasts until midnight tonight.

Under the order, any activity involving or with the potential to start a fire is banned.

This includes open fires for cooking, camping and entertainment, welding and cutting work, and the use of any vehicles in bush or in paddocks unless for agricultural purposes.

Those who don’t comply with order face a $25,000 fine and the possibility of 12 months jail.

There are currently no total vehicle movement bans in place in the South West.
