South Australians are set to receive a Christmas gift from the state government, with the WA border set to reopen.

From midnight on Friday South Australia will be reclassified as a 'very low risk' region, allowing those coming into the state to avoid 14 days of quarantine.

Travellers from the state will still be required to complete a G2G Pass and pass a health check once they arrive in the state.

The change in policy follows an update to state government's health advice.

Premier Mark McGowan congratulated South Australia on its COVID-19 outbreak response.

"I know many people with family and friends in South Australia had their Christmas plans changed due to the recent SA outbreak," he said.

"So I'm very glad that we've been able to make this adjustment."

The South Australian government is yet to publicly comment on the announcement.

The hard border with South Australia was the result of a community outbreak of COVID-19 in Parafield, an outer suburb in Adelaide's north.

The outbreak has seen the state largely shut off from South Australia since November 18.

The news comes as the virus outbreak in Sydney worsens, with eight new locally caught cases recorded today.

WA recorded no additional cases of COVID-19 today, with 10 active cases in hotel quarantine.
