Today officially marks the longest day of the year, with the summer solstice finally here.

Bunbury residents be able to experience 14 hours and 22 minutes of sunshine today, while Busselton residents will experience another two minutes of sunshine.

Although today marks the longest day of the year, it does not mean it will have earliest sunrise or sunset.

The easiest sunrise of the year was on December 5, while the latest sunset this month will be on New Year's Eve.

The official summer solstice will be at 6.02pm tonight.

Tonight also marks the first time Jupiter and Saturn will align with each other in more than 20 years.

The best time to see the event will be between 7.30 and 9.30pm, according to the Perth Observatory.
